When a Blues Rock artist puts together a timeless sound which still carries an overwhelming amount of organic essence it’s hard not to fall a little in love.
With instrumentals which wouldn’t be out of place in a Doors track Evert Outen’s latest single Excuses unfold as a sensual, soul-driven Rock anthem. The Bluesy riffs are almost hypnotic with the perfect hint of psychedelia, yet, it was the up and coming recording artist’s vocals which really won me over. Recreating that nostalgically beautiful sound instrumentally is one thing, but the raw passion behind the vocals isn’t something that you hear every day. When the momentum to Excuses picks up instrumentally you can be sure that Evert Outen’s vocals do too, all sense of restraint slips away, and you’re treated to unadulterated visceral offering of pure emotion.
Excuses is quite the mix up from his earlier releases such as Distraction, it’s safe to say Evert has found his signature sound with Excuses.
