The Ting Tings have returned with their fourth studio album “the Black Light” with a sound you wouldn’t quite come to expect from the Alt Indie duo. We were all enamoured by the infectious punchy hits from their first album “We Started Nothing”. Yet, what they’ve brought to the aural table this time around is enough to make you see them in a totally different light. “Estranged” is the second single to be released from the album, the melancholically minded energy of the single features expressively raw conversational style lyrics which accompany the electro Pop dark instrumentals.
Whilst I’m sure not everyone will see the appeal of how the low-key guitars gradually build through the track with daring synth elements, I for one adore how they’ve decided to reject the template of their earlier sounds. Instead, their progressive sound builds into a raucously immersive breakdown courtesy of searing guitar riffs which thrash against the throbbing electronic effects from the track.
