“Mon Cherie” is the second single released from the up and coming collective of Manchester-based artists who came together from rural areas to form Erlkurnig. Erlkurnig possesses the ability to create a sonorous soundscape which tears holes out of the atmosphere with their haunting offerings of melancholic expression. Whilst the band’s sound isn’t worlds apart from what you’d come to expect from your average downtempo Indie Pop arrangement, their stylistic approach didn’t fail to resonate.
The hypnotically arresting female vocals rest neatly alongside the instrumental arrangements which pack in plenty of melodic intricacy and Shoegaze style alchemy through the infusion of Folk and psychedelic synths. The levels of harmony contained in Mon Cherie almost hits you as hard as the sentiment which was amplified even further by the spoken-word segments which speak to women who have been victimised in society.
