Whatever your playlists usually consist of, I can guarantee there’s room on your radar for breaking DC Singer-Songwriter Z. Her music doesn’t just merge different genres together, with her debut single “Goodbye”, she’s transcended them entirely and offered a track born of poetry, ingenuity and soul instead.
From the reverb-laden pensively picked notes in the prelude to the viscerally-charged all-consuming choruses, the progressive single makes a myriad of evolutions in terms of sound. But the emotion remains as a constant.
With nuances of Soul, Hip Hop, Indie, Gospel, Funk and Pop all weaved into Goodbye, Z has achieved a universally enamouring essential hit. If that doesn’t count as a promising debut, then I’m not sure what does.
It’s almost criminal that Z has kept her aural talent off the airwaves up until now. Yet, arguably, there was no better time to discover this soul-filler of a record.
