Up and coming Indie Pop artist Pawla released her debut EP “Heartless” on June 8th, 2019 and invited listeners into her indulgently moody soundscapes which aren’t just accessible, they’ll feel like an inviting nest of mesmeric melancholy from the first hit.
Any fans of Angel Olsen and Sharon Van Etten will quickly come to appreciate Pawla’s matured and stylistic approach to the Pop genre, in which she isn’t afraid to play with dark textures and tonalities with the instrumental arrangement. The EDM elements carry an ominously enveloping potency while Pawla’s vocals resonate with a deftness and lightness which makes it all too easy to fall into the lyrical narratives of each of the 5 tracks on the EP. The standout track on the EP for us is undoubtedly “Ice Cold” which exudes attitude, reverberant drum rhythms, and candid lyricism which is versed in perfect meter and rhyme almost giving the track a Hip Hop edge.
