“18” is the latest short and sweet mix by up and coming New Wave Trap artist Cole Train. There’s still a slightly Lo Fi feel to the track produced by Trev Dog, yet this only serves to add to the weight of the spoken word vocals.
From the first verse, you’ll be gripped in the tangible sentiment to 18, the lyrics may be kept fairly simple, yet it’s this simplicity combined with the perfect command of meter and rhyme which truly allows the 18 to resonate. I’ve kept it as no secret that I find New Wave Trap often comes across like nails on a chalkboard, but the amount of fluidity and rhythm in the almost jazzy beat didn’t fail to win me over. Cole Train also kept his vocals natural for the most part which means that you’re treated to a poignantly raw mix.
18 was the first track to be released from Cole Train this year, and with it he’s proven that his place is in the studio purifying the soundwaves and showing the rest of the breaking Trap artists how it’s done.
