Trap Music Blog & Promotion Services

Even though there are plenty of hip hop purists that want to separate trap from rap, they will always be connected as trap is a sub-genre of rap. Trap music started to gain traction in the early 90s in Southern America; the signifiers of the trap style became an aggressive sound, and equally as aggressive lyrics which primarily focused on drug dealing and drug use.

Instrumentally, trap separated itself from hip hop with heavier basslines, faster time signatures, prominent 808s, layered synths, and for the more experimental trap artists, cinematic strings. Lyrically, trap artists were even more visceral in their rap bars about the inescapable gang and drug lifestyles (hence, trap) than the original gangster rappers. Atlanta became the capital of trap, while Ghetto Mafia, Goodie Mob, Outkast, Dungeon Family and Cool Breeze became the pioneers.

A decade after the inception of trap, artists such as Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, Triple 6 Mafia and Young Jeezy started pushing the genre even further and allowing it to branch out into the diverse scene that it is today. Producers also had a pivotal role in the evolution of trap; the likes of Drumma Boy, Shawty Redd and Mike WiLL contributed to the contemporary trap sound that incorporates a dark atmosphere, street culture and a hard-hitting high-octane sound. At the turn of the century, trap not only dominated the airwaves, but it also became commonplace in strip clubs in the south too.

The first wave of trap broke into the mainstream in 2003 with the release of T.I.’s second studio album; it sold over 2 million copies and T.I. received a sync deal with EA sports. After his success, T.I. explained the motivation behind his career; to help people understand the actions of people that come from a less privileged side of life. A similar ethos is carried by the new generation of trap artists who are often misbranded as brash or crass when really, their music is reflective of their lives. In 2005, Young Jeezy entered the US Billboard Charts at number 2 after selling 172,000 copies of his album, Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, in the week after its release. It later became a platinum record.

Fast forward to 2012; the trap scene started to merge with the EDM scene as producers and DJs started to weave trap styles into their dance mixes. Many are under the false impression that this was the beginning for trap, and it came along as some new millennial trend, but this is far from the case. In 2021, there are multiple trap sub-genres, even ones as far-reaching as trap metal. The most promising trappers to watch include the likes of Rico Nasty, Nayana Iz, Lil Uzi Vert and Waka Flaka Flame.

The new wave of trap found a new crux to ride with Quizzy GT’s fiery 2021 release, My Dawg. With the hyper rap bars and even more enlivening bass-drenched trap beats, delving into My Dawg half-heartedly isn’t an option.

You can practically feel Quizzy GT’s expressive catharsis pouring through the single that proves that hell hath no fury like a trap artist scorned. Behind the sheer volition, you will find plenty of resonance as you are forced to reflect on the toxic people you’ve undoubtedly encountered in your life.

It feels like it’s almost a given that the traumatised will impart trauma on others through lies and deceit. If any track has what it takes to force accountability into people, it is My Dawg.

cee cooked up a salacious storm in her dark RnB single, IN MY BED, featuring Dohm.

For her latest sultry dark RnB single, IN MY BED, up and coming artist, cee collaborated with rap artist Dohm, who brought a transfixing dynamic to the release. IN MY BED gives you both sides of the story in a stormy, torrid love affair, the kind that thrives on sexual energy, but in the cold light of day, the differences are too stark to maintain the spark.

You couldn’t ask for a more transfixing dark, trappy RnB hit; with the slick and atmospheric production paired with cee and Dohm’s collaborative chemistry, we fell for it, melodic hook, line and sinker.

If any indie RnB artist has what it takes to climb the charts, our money is on cee.

IN MY BED is now available to stream on Spotify.

John Anthony proves why his freestyle flow is one of the fiercest in the game with ‘Sincerely Yours’.

With his standout track, ‘Sincerely Yours’, John Anthony proved that he’s got one of the fiercest freestyle rap flows in the game.

The trailblazing artist used the 7-minute duration to create an exposition of the grittiest and most frustrating factors in our warped 21st-century society; every line delivers introspective gold. From the corrupt nature of the music industry to the danger of anti-mask stupidity to fucked up abortion laws, Anthony poetically goes for the jugular on many contemporary aggravators in Sincerely Yours.

It’s beyond cathartic to hear an artist touch on so many raw issues in a chilled jazzy hip hop soundscape that practically begs for repeat attention. The producer, Logic, knew just what kind of vibe to put behind Sincerely Yours.

Sincerely Yours is available to stream on SoundCloud.

Daniel AMP has dropped his high-fire old school hip hop hitter, Hit Different.

Right from the outset of his career, NYC’s Daniel AMP has proven that he’s one to watch. His most popular single to date has racked up over 100k streams on Spotify alone; the dark, gritty decadence of the single leaves no room for you to wonder why.

His latest single, Hit Different, featuring Stu Stapleton, is a grinding ode to the old school that carries the same atmosphere as the pioneers but Daniel AMP aptly ensured that his single hits completely different. The trippy grooves, rapid-fire vocals that come right to the forefront of the mix and the slight Latin nods come together as an alchemic urban cocktail. If you thought Snoop Dogg’s Gin and Juice was something, prepare to get intoxicated on this high-fire hip hop hit.

Hit Different is now available to stream on Spotify.

UK rapper Chiron Loxton takes the urban grit out of hip hop with Out in the Trees.

It’s tracks like Chiron Loxton’s latest single, Out in the Trees, that exhibit the pointlessness of facade-delivered lyricism. Out in the Trees is the first track released from the luminary Somerset-residing rap artist’s mindful lockdown-inspired album. It is also the perfect introduction to his tendency to take lyrical hip hop to the next level.

Rap and nature rarely go hand in hand, given that it was created in the Bronx, but Loxton didn’t fail to take hip hop out of the urban era and root it in nature. The meditative trap beats with ambient drill undertones make for the perfect vibe out playlist staple.

The official video to Out in the Trees premiered on September 3rd. You can check it out for yourselves on YouTube.

Bandklann Deed delivers gritty high-vibe hip hop in his seminal hit, Pop My Shit.

Judging by his seminal single, breaking US indie hip hop artist Bandklann Deed is on the rise with his grimy drill beats and even grittier lyrics. ‘Pop My Shit’ is a dark trappy hit that epitomises hustler hip hop to its core while still unravelling as fresh.

The enigmatic dominance drips with every clever lyrical blow as the old school instrumental style makes its best attempt to leave you adrenalised by the high-fire hit. Hint, it definitely succeeds. He may have an indie status, but that definitely doesn’t resound in the production quality of Pop My Shit. Hear it, and it will be in your head for days.
