Techno Victim’s techno-funk hybrid, ‘Funk It’, is the ultimate EDM playlist staple.

If you like your techno on the darker side of the tonal palette, you’ll want to immerse yourselves in Techno Victim’s (AKA Christopher Rapkin) latest single Funk It. The international EDM artist and producer weaved organic funk grooves amongst the chilling bass-driven tones; despite the experimentalism, Funk It is as easy to slip into as any of Daft Punk’s iconic hits.

The textural contrast that the elements of funk bring through the choppy staccato guitar rhythms are nothing short of ingenious. They allow Funk It to unravel as an all-consuming feat of EDM in a way that is quickly becoming with synonymous with the enigmatic producer’s sound.

Atlanta indie artist Sarah Rae explores the multifaceted nature of love with her new single, ‘Poison Ivy’.

Sarah Rae

With her latest alt-indie single, ‘Poison Ivy’, Sarah Rae explores the contrasting layers of love, melodically shifting between light and dark transitions in the Shoegaze single that will undoubtedly be a hit with fans of Hooverphonic, Portishead and Slowdive.

It is singles like Poison Ivy that remind you that there’s no such thing as a realistic ‘happy’ love song. They’re about as true to life as superficially stretched smiles in social media posts that are aimed to deceive people into believing that your life is a 24/7 soirée of aesthetic euphoria.

Poison Ivy starts with chilling angular notes that feed into the stylish trip hop-style soundscape that allows the vox to find perfect synergy with the reverb-swathed instrumentals as they bleed into them, still allowing the poignancy of the lyrics to haunt the progressively enthralling track that gets better with every listen.

Poison Ivy is due for official release on June 9th; you can check it out for yourselves by heading over to SoundCloud.

Tropic house fuses with blues in Lekna’s latest single, ‘Want It’, featuring Liel Bar-Z.

London-based EDM producer and guitarist, Lekna’s latest single, ‘Want It’, may unravel as a definitive tropical house mix, but pay close attention to the shimmering melodies, and you will find that the notes pull themselves up from the roots of blues.

Liel Bar-Z’s mesmerising vocals don’t dominate the mix, instead, the harmonic effect-laden vocal notes seem to seamlessly breathe around the ardent and arrestive beats that will make sure that your rhythmic pulses are interconnected with the bassline far before the drops start to open up aural rabbit holes beneath you.

With plenty more mixes locked and loaded, and plans to release an EP in 2022, Lekna deserves a spot on your radar.

Want It will be available to stream from June 4th. You’ll be able to check it out for yourselves by heading over to Soundcloud.

Elanor Idlewood sends us back to the golden era of synthpop with ‘Akito’s Madness’.

Bordeaux-based queer, feminist electronic music producer Elanor Idlewood has released her latest single, Akito’s Madness. Hit play to escape the 21st-century and immerse yourself in the golden era of synthpop.

Akito’s Madness provides 5:47-minutes of unadulterated, reverb-swathed synth lines that eclipse the 80s synthpop sound while boasting a sense of cinematic futurism which is prevalent in Idlewood’s distinctive yet immediately accessible production style.

Music became more than just a hobby in 2019 when Elanor Idlewood established herself as an independent artist. If Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Depeche Mode, Orbit, and Kraftwerk are on your playlists, Akito’s Madness should be too.

Akito’s Madness is now available to stream via SoundCloud.

Siobamm has made her dark-pop debut with her alt-indie-electronica EP, ‘Gloom Patrol’.

Siobamm

Toronto, Canada-hailing roller derby skater Siobamm used her time during lockdown to write and self-produce her dark pop debut EP, Gloom Patrol. It is easily one of the most promising alt-electronica debuts so far in 2021.

The standout single, Bones, is a feat of darkwave synth-pop that pulls in gothy discordant textures along with the steady downtempo pace of the pulsating basslines, giving Bones a mesmerizingly mellifluous, almost cinematic, feel. If Gloom Patrol was her 10th EP, we’d be impressed. For Siobamm to make a debut with a sound that is polished as it is authentic is something else entirely. Discernibly, the key to Siobamm’s success was ensuring that connectable emotion ran at the surface of her unique sound.

Any fans of Warpaint, Hooverphonic, Portishead and Bjork won’t want to miss out on this stylistically moody synth-pop release.

Dilemma has released his ensnaring alt-electronica mix, ‘Moments’.

https://soundcloud.com/dilemmaca/moments

Even with EDM being the hardest genre to establish authenticity within, up and coming artist Dilemma discernibly didn’t fail, with his recently released single, ‘Moments’. His intoxicating mash of synth-pop, future bass and disco put you on a sonic trajectory right from the intro; from there on out, it’s a sonic whirlwind of intense hyper emotion.

When you get to the breaks, Dilemma deftly delivers that essential feeling of catharsis when tension erupts into euphoria. With sax solos, glitchy white noise and veraciously ensnaring beats all weaved into the intricately layered and textured mix, all reminiscence to Dilemma is extremely fleeting.

After being involved in an accident that left all five of Dilemma’s senses in a state of hypersensitivity, music allowed Dilemma to find purpose after everything else felt meaningless. The amount of love poured into his releases is practically unparalleled. Moments will make you think twice about delving into releases that offer any less than the exuberant passion that you will find right here.

Moments is now available to stream via SoundCloud.

Bad Wolf peeks behind closed doors in his latest nu-disco single, ‘Curfew at the Disco’

While plenty of us sulked about the inaccessibility of dancefloors and lack of like-minded community, Philippines-based artist and producer Bad Wolf imagined what went on behind closed doors while creating his latest melodically tropic single, Curfew at the Disco.

After the release of his debut single, If I Can Make You Dance, in January 2021, he was scouted by MojoHeadz Records and inspired to release at least ten new singles in 2021. Based on Curfew at the Disco, we can expect plenty more soul-oozing DAW-created grooves from the artist who is quickly becoming renowned for painting with metropolitan strokes and with kaleidoscopically urban colour.

Curfew at the Disco unravels as a mix of euphoria-evoking nu-disco and roots deep techno that allows Bad Wolf to invite you into his imagination where you can explore the intimacy of the house parties which happened while dancefloors and venues gathered dust. The air of hedonist rebellion runs right through Curfew at the Disco, right next to the influence from indie dance and 80s Japanese City pop.

Curfew at the Disco officially released on May 3rd; you can check it out for yourselves via SoundCloud. Connect with Bad Wolf via Instagram.
