shoegazer brings in the future of bass house with his latest single, ‘Modest Revolt’.

shoegazer

Tokyo-based music producer shoegazer’s eclectic style fuses ethereal ambience and unbridled energy with aggressively caustic textures to deliver a multifaceted sound that is only synonymous with his moniker.

His latest release, Modest Revolt, is a progressively electrifying hit that doesn’t discriminate on the genres under the EDM umbrella it draws from. With euphoric bass house-style drops and glitchy increments of dub house, Modest Revolt is an aural force to be reckoned with.

Many artists may have started to take the multi-genre approach, but very few can seamlessly meld the contrasting textures and make a hit that would make a dancefloor writhe like shoegazer can.

Modest Revolt is due for release on July 16th; check out shoegazer on Soundcloud.

Kattacomb ambiently explores loss in their downtempo single ‘Now You’re Away’

https://soundcloud.com/kattacomb/now-youre-away?in=kattacomb/sets/sleepless-ep

Maryland, US-residing artist and producer Kattacomb has released his ambient EP, Sleepless, capturing the delirium of those sleep-deprived hours that seem to stretch beyond time or reason.

Now You’re Away may not use narrative lyrics or even vocals that still bear any humanistic resemblance. But with those three words in the title paired with the bright melodies, you’re drawn into a soundtrack that compassionately connects with you through the relatability of  loneliness that creeps into bed beside you when your mind refuses to sleep before daylight.

The conceptual use of birdsong around the glitchy, trip-hop minimalist instrumentals was nothing short of ingenious. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, Now You’re Away may just be the most stunning feat of electronica since Apoptygma Berzerk’s ‘Until the End of the World’.

Now You’re Away is now available to stream via Soundcloud.

Jord has released his indie dream-pop pride anthem ‘(Gay) Teenage Dream’.

https://soundcloud.com/jordan-barhydt/gay-teenage-dream-1/s-f7llP4A90nl

Following on from his chill electropop debut single, ‘Fuck, I’m Not Famous’ that hit the airwaves in May 2021, Chicago-born, NYC-based artist Jord has released his sophomore single, ‘(Gay) Teenage Dream’.

The single that was released for Pride month is a stunning feat of indie-pop with intricate shoegaze nuances found in the cutting angular guitar notes that pop around the danceable electropop beats, tender piano melodies and the deep sense of soul that won’t fail to fill your own.

Given that most queer people’s teenage years aren’t anywhere near as idyllic as the tones you will hear in the release, (Gay) Teenage Dream is a stunningly consoling single that allows your imagination to run rampant through sweet hazy possibilities.

The lyrics, “I don’t care if I’m not 17, I just want to live the gay teenage dream”, are profoundly reflective of the sadness and sense of loss felt by many members of the LGBTQ+ community as they come of age and have little affection to look back on. He’s the queer pop artist we never knew we needed.

There will be plenty more from Jord throughout 2021 and beyond. iI he isn’t already on your radar, make room.

(Gay) Teenage Dream released on June 25th. You can check it out for yourselves by heading over to SoundCloud.

Simulated Youth – Digital Memories, featuring Rielle & Camoragi; a trap anthem for the cyber age.

https://youtu.be/IBQXC29Q86Q

US alt-electronica artist Simulated Youth is set to release his two-track release, Digital Memories, featuring vocals from Rielle & Camorag. Thankfully, he has stayed true to his signature cyberpunk EDM style that we have come to adore while creating a trap anthem for the cyber age with the title track.

The canter in the rap bars is just as dizzying as the melodic command in the reverb swathed synths in the bass-riding single that is just as conceptual as the preceding releases from Simulated Youth. This time, he tells a two-sided story of breaking up in the modern age where it is impossible to disconnect from the people we have grown apart from with the digital tethers that keep us connected. Digital Memories is for everyone that has ever scorned Facebook memories for reminding us of our exes. Especially if those exes belong in a private hall of shame.

With only a hint of hyperbole, experiencing the danceable drop for the first time may have been the highlight of my 2021. Simulated Youth is easily one of our favourite discoveries this year. His devilishly meta production style is enough to make a sapiosexual weak at the knees.

You can check out Digital Memories from June 25th here.

infparsa took electronic pop to evocative new heights with ‘823’, featuring Pooyan jc.

For his latest release, electronica songwriter, engineer, artist and producer infparsa teamed up with vocalist Pooyan jc to create what is easily one of the most evocative electronica releases of the year. The vibrato on the vocals is enough to make a grown man cry.

The 20-year-old Iranian artist started to hone in on his talents at the age of 15 when he first started creating beats. Aged 17, he established himself as a talented producer before his move to Moscow, Russia. Currently, infparsa resides in Kazan, where he is continuing to work on his upcoming projects. If the releases that follow 823 are just as compelling, it is only a matter of time until he breaks into the mainstream.

The indie, intimate vibes to the single pull at the heartstrings with visceral force. It scarcely matters that English unilingual minds won’t be able to decipher the lyrics; plenty of the emotion lies in the dance-pop melodies and the compassionately romantic vocal notes.

823 is now available to stream via SoundCloud.

Strange Melody put an experimental spin on Eurodance with ‘Don’t Go’

‘Don’t Go’ is the latest single released by Poland-born, Belgium-based DJ and producer Strange Melody. If any Eurodance track is going to make you nostalgic for t.A.T.u., it is this experimentally progressive single.

Don’t Go switches between direct deliverances of spoken word to hyper pop vocals that add to the sense of arresting anticipation as you’re left to wonder what aural curveballs will follow the preceding ones.

It’s a stunning release that stands as a testament to Strange Melody’s refreshingly diverse sound; expect atmospheric breakbeats, ominous symphonic tones and infectious future bass-style choruses that make an earworm of Don’t Go.

Overslow helps us to dive back in with his acoustic summer pop anthem ‘Deep Blue Water’.

As we emerge from one of the most stagnant and isolated winters of our lifetimes, Overslow’s single, Deep Blue Water, featuring Alex Amto, serves as a poignant reminder of what it truly means to live instead of just existing.

The acoustic folk-pop single is instilled with compassion and meta inspiration for those who find themselves tentative when it comes to picking themselves up delving back in. It is the perfect summer pop anthem; in every possible way. Catchy Choruses? Check. High-vibe life-affirming lyricism? Check. Stabbing horn sections around stunning acoustic guitar solos? Check.

LA’s Tyler Garrett shines in his latest album ‘Morning Star’.

Tyler Garrett

Emerging electronica singer-songwriter and artist Tyler Garrett has given us a sneak peek of what is to come in his upcoming album, Morning Star, due for release on June 22nd.

The title track is an intoxicatingly up-vibe mash of future bass, hyper pop, RnB and ambient electronica. The LA-hailing artist discernibly brings the energy, but no part of this visceral mix ever feels over facing. The 33-year-old has already discernibly perfected the balance between groove and aural euphoria.

Previously, his popular tracks have racked up over 1-million streams; it is easy to see how Morning Star will follow. He has a unique way of bringing raw intimacy to massive productions. We are sure it will see him go far in 2021 and beyond.

Rachael Philip pays ode to continuity in ‘Relics in the Ice’

Rachael Philip

Manchester-based self-taught musician and composer Rachael Philip has taken a break from composing for film to release her debut album, Wax Ephemeral. The influences for the standout single, Relics in the Ice, came through the artist’s intense interest in science and spirituality. You will hear the latter laden in the minimalist, accordant progressions.

Hitting play on the dreamy instrumental landscape, complemented by birdsong, is a sure-fire way to get a potent hit of catharsis. The climbing progressions may be gentle, but Relics in the Ice is as transcendent as electroacoustic ambient neo-classic work gets.

In her own words,

“The album is a tribute to the continuous cycle of life, beauty in death, and regeneration into new forms from microcosmic to macrocosmic view, of a diverse but interconnected network of beings and organisms.”

Relics in the Ice is due for release on July 2nd. In the meantime, you can check out the composer’s other equally as mesmeric scores via SoundCloud.

The Television Of Cruelty go out of this world with ‘The Winchcombe Meteorite’

Eclectic is a word that gets overused in music reviews, but there are few that fit The Television Of Cruelty better; unexpected, often eerie and unsettling, ‘The Winchecombe Meteorite’ is a narrative tale telling the story of a big chunk of space debris which landed on the driveway of a house smack in the middle of Suburban England in February 2021, amongst the lockdown of the Coronavirus pandemic and the echoing divisions of Brexit and the Black Lives Matter protests.

Musically, there’s a mixture of folk, prog, and out and out rock; guitars, yes, and drums, but also flutes and a melodica. It sounds a little like New Model Army back in their ‘Vengeance’ and ‘Thunder and Consolation’ perfection heyday, mixed with ‘Space Oddity’-era Bowie and dashes of Pink Floyd and Yes. It’s gentle, poetic, storytelling folk-prog that’s a perfect introduction to the ToC’s new album ‘England’s Wyrding’. Stellar (sorry).

Check out ‘The Winchcombe Meteorite’ on Soundcloud; follow the Television of Cruelty on Facebook and Twitter.
