UK-based RnB artist Soul has made an ethereally dark contribution to the genre with the release of the standout single, move on. The steady, deadpan vocals occupy plenty of space in the soundscape that finds its structure through downtempo, melodic trap beats.

Soul may be fresh from his inception, but the self-taught artist is discernibly well-practised in the art of expression. His melancholy-erring sound extends compassion instead of self-apathy while he explores the dark places our minds can take us to.

We’ve come a long way in recent years with opening up the conversation around mental health. Raw tracks such as move on are only going to make it easier to break the stigma and move away from our tendency to leave mental scars on people we once found affection for.

Sarah O’Moore serves soul food in her sophomore single, I Need U.

Alt-RnB soulstress Sarah O’Moore has followed on from her debut single, Here to Stay, with the sophomore single, I Need U, which energetically emanates good vibes despite running through varying senseless tragedies present in socio-political landscapes.

The Irish singer-songwriter’s funk-bridled old-school style incorporates elements of jazz and reggae to create a culturally rich smorgasbord of sound led by 70s-style synth lines. The sonic textures alone are enough to advocate cultural harmony. Yet, through her matter of fact lyrics, minority groups have a true ally, and the affronts of the narrow-minded that are depressingly prolific are quashed under her graceful soul.

With a voice as authentic as Macy Gray’s it will be no time at all before Sarah O’Moore is ascending the RnB charts.

Jane Allison proves why she’s the next soul-folk sensation with her single, ‘Don’t Spill Water’

Soul-folk sensation Jane Allison has released her latest single, Don’t Spill Water; with disco, funk, psych-pop and blues-rock written into the mellifluous mix, it’s impossible not to get swept up by the vibrant energy.

The Welsh singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actress seems to emanate as much magnetism on screen as she does through her captivatingly narrative singles. She may stay true to the storytelling roots of Folk, but when it comes to her sonic style, that is where the bold experimentalism grips you.

Through the choppy staccato chords and rich ABBA-Esque vocals, Don’t Spill Water is an intoxicating invitation to strip yourself of the resentful weight you carry through life. That’s a reminder that we all need from time to time.

Any fans of 90s and 00s RnB will feel right at home in the empowering energetic single that follows a female protagonist trying to bank on her social capital while contending with lavish hunger. In essence, it’s a soulful affirmation that if you can get it, you’re worth it.

Yugi waxes lyrical on existentialism with ‘NPMNG’.

Up and coming hip hop artist, Yugi, is set to drop his wisdom-bomb of an EP, UNRAVEL; he’s given us a glimpse of what is to come by giving us a sneak peek of the lead track, NPMNG’.

The mellow trip-hop beats in the prelude give way to snappy 808s under layers of soulful old school hip hop influence; as the canter of the rap bars picks up, all of your attention will fall to NPMNG’s soulful wordplay.

‘Life isn’t hitting the same’ may be the most relatable lyric written this year. It succinctly encompasses the hollow feeling when you only find monotony instead of serotonin when indulging in the things that used to make you happy. Despite the waxing lyrical on existentialism, NPMNG is a hazy high-vibe hit that deserves a spot on your vibe out playlists.

NPMNG will be released on July 30th along with the rest of Yugi’s EP, UNRAVEL.

TheeOnlyMilo has made a seductive debut with ‘Gushy Gushy’, featuring Zaria.

Singer-songwriter and alchemist of soul TheeOnlyMilo has released his debut single, Gushy Gushy, featuring Zaria. In terms of salaciousness, it is practically on the same level as WAP, but there is no denying the underlying playful and sentimental feel to the single that flirts with elements of pop, soul, trap and hip hop.

If you can imagine what it would sound like if Andre 3000 turned his sex drive up to 11, you can get an idea of how endearing Gushy Gushy is despite the explicitness. The hazy stoner vibes and elements of soul can be found in the chemistry weaved between Zaria and TheeOnlyMilo’s vocals and the dreamy beats.

With a uniquely different style that has you looking deeper into her sensitively strong soul, Miliah knows that she can mostly save herself from all the love-torn hurt and childish games from selfish former lovers, with the breathtaking story about falling down sometimes on ‘Common‘.

London-based Singer-songwriter and emissary of soul, Rob Quo, has released his EP, Let It Spin, which captures his vintage-inclined style at its most accordant and psychedelic.

If you can imagine what it would sound like if the Zombies covered ‘Stuck in the Middle with You’, you’ll get an idea of the hazily sticky-sweet vibe Rob Quo orchestrated with the lead single; Talkin’ Bout the Truth.

The EP marks the singer-songwriter’s transition away from folk and blues and into the realm of experimental aural eclecticism. With an LP in the works, due for release in 2022, the old school crooner is well worth a spot on your radar.

Up and coming RnB artist Kiani Alexandra has released her soulfully-rendered latest single, want u worse; it’s packed with infectious pop potential, but you’ll fall just as hard for the lyrics as you will for the addictive melodies.

The lyric “I know you want me bad, but I want you worse” deserves a Grammy in itself. That’s just one of the clever vocals melodic hooks that appear in this high-vibe danceable earworm that explores some of the darkest emotions we will ever face in a way that leaves you instilled with euphoric emotion. Calling Kiani Alexandra an ingenious artist could never be considered to be hyperbolic.
