The more Hip Hop and Rock cross over albums I hear, the more convinced I become that this is where the future of the genre lies. BrenkdonK released his concept album ‘Whatever I Want on April 16th, 2018 to treat audiophiles of all persuasions to a soundscape which fuses together EDM, R&B, Rock and Hip Hop.
As you can imagine the tracks on the album are hard-hitting and packed with plenty of digital reverb. Yet, it’s Brendonk’s vocals which really caught my attention.
The Orange County based recording artist kept an Indie Rock tonality to his lyrical verses which followed the fluid momentum of the beats. Each track is as captivating as the last as the earth shattering EDM hooks and snares kept you in sweet anticipation of the drops.
Each of the seven tracks also carries their own individualistic essence, yet it’s tracks such as Seen a Few Things and Only Time I’m Sorry where the acoustic instruments were allowed to take a little more charge in the mix. It was the intro track Kamikaze which let’s you know how much of punch Whatever I Want is going to pack.
