The word ‘mesmeric’ may get bound around a lot in music journalism, but there aren’t many other ways of poignantly saying that Ala Ghawas latest single “Ember” pulled me into a state of arrestive catharsis through its hypnotically concordant potency.
The stripped-back organic soundscape sets the perfect tonality for Ala Ghawas’ impossibly smooth vocals to gently float upon. The layers of harmony amplify the wistfully sweet sentiment found within the lyrics in the soundscape which moves at an ambient pace allowing you to drink in the waves of deftly orchestrated melancholy. With orchestral strings taking care of the outro, Ember is a track which will stay with you for long after it has softly drawn to a close.
