ATR delivered sheer punk rock defiance in his no-wave stormer, A New Life, Featuring Kellii Scott

ATR served up another gnarled no-wave punk single with the release of the blisteringly sweet lo-fi anthem, A New Life, featuring Kellii Scott (Failure).

ATR was formed in 2014 after the founder, Jess, returned from his tour in Iraq as a combat medic with PTSD, a traumatic brain injury and other sustained injuries. With that context, the defiance within A New Life takes on a whole new meaning. If you have ever known how it feels for your mind to wage war on you, the lyrics in A New Life hit like mantras you’ll want to follow and turn to for resilience.

Before his time in the army, Jess was the lead singer and guitarist for an MCA Records-signed punk rock band in the 90s. Even though they were an underground outfit, they shared stages with the likes of The UK Subs, Anti-Flag, The Ataris, and At the Drive In; he never lost his discordant biting touch, but he did attune his sonic signature to the lo-fi alt-grunge style that will electrify you in A New Life.

A New Life will officially release on March 26th. You can check it out for yourselves by heading over to SoundCloud.

Patrice Hawthorne seeks to quieten frenetic minds with her single, Peace Once More

With the title of “Peace Once More”, the up and coming soul singer, Patrice Hawthorne’s latest single hits hard before you even hit play. Those three simple words allude to how hard-fought-for peace is in our slightly warped modern age, how urgent the search for it can feel and how sweet it is to find that evasive inner catharsis. That sweetness resonates in the timbre in the modern RnB production, which left plenty of room for experimentalism.

After the spoken word verse, energizingly uplifting harmonies and the reverb-laden sun-kissed melodies, you get a taste of the peace that we’ve all been striving for lately. Top tip, turn off the news and tune into the artists worth paying attention to.

In a time when people are more polarized than ever before, Patrice Hawthorne and her matured songwriting, dynamically powerful vocal range and artistic flair can be considered an essential artist. Get her on your radar. For your sanity’s sake not hers.

Peace Once More is now available to stream on Spotify.

Stuck In This Matrix: Emanle Ali drops the truth for all to hear on ‘BSOM’ (Boston State Of Mind)

Juice Patrol squeezed plenty of extra soul into his latest single, Timeline.

Before the grips of winter sink their teeth, get a taste of the Caribbean sun in the up and coming alt hip hop artist Juice Patrol’s third single, Timeline. The ambient grind and the hazy layers construct a mellifluously soothing platform for Juice Patrol’s soft, gentle and endlessly magnetic vocals to dominate as they work through the spoken word urban poetry.

The Ugandan-based solo artist used his fusionist genre and border-spanning sound to prove that soul can spark from the most emotionally fraught experiences. Timeline was inspired by a revolving door relationship and our tendency to turn a blind eye to red flags when affection and history are involved. Instead of giving it all in black and white, Juice Patrol added to the conversation in warm tones and kaleidoscopic colour.

With the depth and wit in the lyrics, Timeline makes you realise just how little nuance there is when it comes to lyrical introspection on toxic relationships. As for the chillwave vibe, you couldn’t ask for a sweeter vibe-out playlist staple.

Timeline is now available to stream on all major platforms via this link.

Niadomi has released her theatrical, hyper pop single, The Beast and the Grind.

Just when I was starting to think that I had heard it all, alternative artist Niadomi appeared on our radar with her theatrical, hyper pop single, The Beast and the Grind.

With her operatic vocals that verse fantastical, poetic lyrics meeting the happy hardcore-style beats, I now know how Emilie Autumn would sound if Dune remixed one of her archaically fierce singles. The Beast and the Grind may not be your average earworm, but that doesn’t remove its infectious potential; you can’t help being hyped by the aural presence of Niadomi. We can’t wait to hear what follows this seminal release.

Unravel with a.patrick’s consoling modern masterpiece, fray

From the instant you hit play on the Minneapolis vocalist, pianist and producer, a.patrick’s, latest single, fray, your senses surrender to the ethereal quiescence that ensues through this modern masterpiece.

His artful neo-classic style is enough to bring tears to the surface as his accordant harmonies echo above his distinguished piano melodies that carry little, if any, assimilation. The way he leaves himself exposed through his lyrics and gentle vocal presence is enough to feel you feeling just as emotionally naked.

As someone who frequently finds themselves drawn to melancholia in music, I can earnestly say that you’d struggle to find another soundscape as captivating and consoling in equal measure as this beautifully scorned lullaby.

Fray is now available to stream on Spotify.

Where Did Everyone Go: Baltimore alt-rockers Normal Suits urge us to not plug too far into the matrix on ‘In Threes’

With a catchy chorus up there with the best of them around and a cleanly swept sound that pulsates the shaking speakers into pure bliss, Normal Suits are at their best with their latest kick-ass single called ‘In Threes‘.

Normal Suits is an experienced and high octane three-piece indie rock band from Baltimore, Maryland. Over twenty years being in various bands and getting the t-shirt, you feel their close bond throughout this revved up track.

The songs are, at their core, straight-ahead rock songs, but with the sophistication that comes from years of experimentation with the layering of instruments and sounds.” ~ Normal Suits

You feel their purposeful and exhilarating standards bust into your consciousness on a breathtakingly simmering soundscape, which has such a tremendous edge to it. This is the type of song that makes you think twice about your latest moves, as the world threatens to take your money and your soul, without you even knowing or caring, that this is taking place right before your very eyes.

In Threes‘ from the gritty Baltimore, Maryland-based indie rock act Normal Suits, is a scrumptious single that has a stark warning about plugging in too deep, as it can drown your mind like being underwater for too long. Made with a roaring blend of a electrifying force that stamps a powerful wave of intrigue all over your soul, this is a quality single from a truly criminally underrated band, who definitely need more love.

Elective Theatre served bitter-sweet fuzzed-up soul in their latest indie grunge single, ‘False Start’.

It seems hyperbolic to state that Elective Theatre’s latest single, False Start, contains the same level of bitter-sweet soul in Radiohead’s Fake Plastic Trees while sounding completely authentic, but that is exactly what they achieved with this cuttingly melancholic seminal single.

The spiralling, shoegazey guitars reel you further into the pensive heart of the single with every psych-tinged fuzzed-up note. Art rock, grunge, shoegaze, 90s Britpop and indie fans alike should be internationally scrambling to make Elective Theatre a staple on their playlists.

False Start is easily one of the most masterful singles we’ve heard this year. We can’t wait to hear more from the indie rock outfit.
